How Do Invisalign® Aligners Work?

While there is more work in the setup of your treatment, the Invisalign® process is fairly simple.

Meet for Your FREE Invisalign® Consultation

The first step in the process is meeting with us, your Invisalign® dentist! We will discuss your goals with you and decide whether Invisalign® clear aligners are the right choice for you.

Design Your Invisalign® Treatment Plan

If an Invisalign® treatment is a good option for you, we will take scans of your teeth and plan out your treatment. We will design your aligners and have them created at an Invisalign® lab; then we will arrange an appointment and get you set up for a fitting.

At your fitting, we’ll answer your questions, create a workable, customized schedule for your Invisalign® treatment, and—most importantly—make sure your Invisalign® aligners fit exactly the way they should.

Start the Teeth Straightening Process

After we’ve fitted you for your Invisalign® trays and have explained their schedule of use, your teeth straightening process can begin!

You’ll start with an initial tray and will wear that tray as often as possible for about a week or until specified by your Invisalign® dentist. Once you’ve worn your first tray as long as you need to, you’ll switch to the next tray in the series; then continue this process until you get to the last tray.

Each of your aligning trays will fit very similarly to the last one, but they are just different enough to keep gradually correcting your teeth until you have a beautiful, straight smile.

What Can You Expect During Your Invisalign® Process?

It’s common to have questions about your Invisalign® straightening process, and our team at Infinity Dental Associates is happy to provide the answers. The best way to get answers specific to you is to talk to your Invisalign® dentist, Dr. Marcus, but there are a few common questions that we can answer here and now.

What Is the Average Cost of Invisalign® Straightening?

The average cost of Invisalign® aligners can vary widely from person to person, but it’s generally comparable to the cost of traditional braces. We’ll always communicate with you and your insurance company to help make sure you get an affordable rate that works for you. Depending on your needs, you can likely adjust your monthly payments to fit your budget.

Does Invisalign® Straightening Hurt?

Since Invisalign® can dramatically adjust your teeth for a better smile, some people might wonder what the Invisalign® process itself feels like. More specifically, does Invisalign® straightening hurt? The answer is no! While the aligners might feel pressure on your teeth, especially when the aligner is new, the process should never be painful.

If you feel any Invisalign® pain, let your dentist know as soon as possible. Because Invisalign® aligners are smooth and have no metal wires or brackets, your chances of hurting your gums or inner cheek tend to be much lower with Invisalign® braces than traditional braces.

How Long Does the Invisalign® Process Take?

Generally, you’ll be asked to wear your Invisalign® aligners for somewhere between twelve and eighteen months. This time period will change depending on your teeth, and how well you’re able to stick to your Invisalign® schedule. It’s important to remember that by wearing your Invisalign® aligners as frequently as possible, you’ll be able to stay on track to a straighter smile.

One of the advantages of the Invisalign® straightening process is that you have the ability to take your Invisalign® aligners in and out at will. This means you’ll be able to easily floss and brush your teeth and you’ll be able to eat whatever foods you like, but it also means you’re responsible for wearing your aligners as often as possible!

Do Patients Need to Wear a Retainer After Invisalign® Straightening?

In order to keep your straight new smile in place, most Invisalign® patients are asked to wear a retainer after their Invisalign® treatment. The length of time you’re asked to wear a retainer will depend on your teeth. Your Invisalign® dentist will be able to give you an exact retainer timeframe.
